Founded in 2002 in Charlotte, THRIFT Poetic Arts is a sanctuary
for artists and writers in the Southeastern United States. THRIFT
was birthed in the tradition of poetry readings and the spoken word,
where fine art could be found in spontaneity and diversity. Our
foremost goal is to promote the diversity of our region by providing
a venue for up and coming and established artists, giving artistic
opportunity to growing artists regardless of their resumé and seeking
out the most sincere, risk-taking, and talented voices of our time.
The release of THRIFT Poetic Arts Journal in August 2002 celebrated a revolutionary approach to the poetry journal. Under the artistic direction of Editor Margaret Allegrucci, the journal itself is a work of art, congealing varying perspectives of a diverse group of artists under a pertinent theme. Original cover art by professional local artists, original poetry and art within its pages make THRIFT Poetic Arts Journal an awesome opportunity and an inspiring read.
In 2005, we have added the prose and photography journal
moonShine review, to our array of publications. We publish
chapbooks, anthologies, and artist catalogues as well, always with
complete hands-on creative input by the artists themselves.
THRIFT is ruled by the thriving art of expression, in its power
to heal socially and individually. Though our motivations are founded
in love, peace, and unity, the driving force behind THRIFT Poetic
Arts is truth, which reveals the tragic along with the beautiful.
